A real journey back in time in the heart of the village of Laguiole, a hundred employees work daily to perpetuate the cutlery tradition within the Forge de Laguiole® factory.

The Nontron knife bears the name of the village of its birth. Its story is so long and filled with legends that it is difficult to date. However, experts agree on the fact that the Nontron knife is the oldest French knife. Guillaume de la Villeneuve was already referring to «Pierregord knives» in his «Nomenclature des crieries de Paris »at the beginning of the 13th Century. It is possible that this region of Southern France produced knives and other sharpened tolls before the Middle Ages.........
The "Coutellerie Nontronnaise" is labeled Living Heritage Company.
Initially, the Douk-Douk was intended for the Melanesian market, which seemed in the 1930s to be an interesting commercial hub.
The figure struck on the handle is in the effigy of the Melanesian god Douk-Douk. Its origin is lost in the mists of time and its cult is still perpetuated and flourishing today in Melanesia.
